The return of Jiang Yu Shan. A lot has happened and now is the time to share more!

The Virtue Of Authenticity

If you have watched the news closely, there has been a lot of controversy around Shaolin Temple China with the "CEO Monk" who has turned the noble Shaolin monasteries into pure profit making pits.

The reality is that the modern Shaolin is not the same what it used to be before the cultural revolution in 1966 when the real forms of Kung Fu were banned by Mao Zedong and the masters had to flee overseas to countries such as Hong Kong, Taiwan and Malaysia.

Nowadays, the modern Shaolin is often heavily commercialized and turned into a show of magic tricks.

This is what the grandmaster Jiang Yu Shan is particularly not happy about.

"We have this kind of Shaolin masters and Shaolin gurus and qigong experts and different kind of gurus, they are growing up like ugly mushrooms in our society. And when you see it very clearly, you see it very clearly as I saw it. I saw it. I had students." - Jiang Yu Shan

In the last few years, the grandmaster Jiang Yu Shan has been very disappointed in this: many masters or students only trying to hunt the name of his Monkey Fist Door or desiring the knowledge for pure selfish reasons.

Many students only learn the surface level of his methods in a month and proclaim to be masters. For Jiang Yu Shan, it took decades to master the knowledge and that's why he is able to transmit the knowledge at the most profound level.

Moreover, since the authentic knowledge is very difficult to find and it's not easy to get hands on, many are just plainly trying to copy the grandmaster and claim to possess the real deal.

This even happens with us. You see, we don't really follow other fitness channels or experts in the space — we are purely focused on our own craft. 

Yet, if we do take a look at what's happening, countless channels are taking ideas, concepts and exercises directly from us. The good ones give credit where it's due and the bad ones are just blatant copycats. 

How do we know this? It's easy because they are demonstrating movements we specifically invented with the names we have specifically come up with. 

You see, authenticity and having a real source of knowledge is extremely rare in today's society — most people just copy and reiterate others ideas without coming up with anything new.

In the world of Qigong & Kung Fu, people know how valuable and authentic the knowledge of grandmaster Jiang Yu Shan is. His knowledge comes from 3 masters (3 lineages) and decades of dedication to mastering real authentic Kung Fu.

In reality, it's a great compliment for other people to want to steal or copy your ideas and knowledge — you know what you have is the real deal. It's just not completely ethical to do so. 

But this has been the problem since the beginning of time. Authentic people can often sense the authenticity in others and have the eyes to see the depth of different methods.

Anyone who has trained Lohan Gong, 24 Warrior Set or any methods by the grandmaster Jiang Yu Shan knows that it takes years, maybe a decade, to reach a high level in practice. Good luck copying that level of refinement.

Only the people who have reached a high level themselves are able to transmit the depth and effects of the knowledge to their students. Just don't be fooled by superficial knowledge.

This podcast and text was a bit heavier than usual but something the grandmaster felt very strongly about.

Just over 5 years ago, before we met him, the grandmaster had no presence in the West and he was primarily focused on his practice in Taiwan.

Over the last few years, he has become deeply disappointed with what he has seen happening in the Qigong and Kung Fu communities in the West — nothing could have prepared him for this level of regret.

But what can we do? We can keep practicing focusing on our development and bringing valuable knowledge to our audience. The copycats will always be years behind.

The question is whether you want the real deal or just the copy of a copy of a copy.
